Hello!
In my previous blog post i created a mind map collecting ideas for my final year collection. Throughout the collection of thoughts running through my mind, i have decided to create a collection based on adapting menswear into womenswear. The collection portrays an imitation upon the traditions of men’s wear tailored garments with the infusion of modern and feminine silhouettes empowering the womanly figure. The silhouettes are structured and adapt to the female body allowing the collection to have the balance and the complexity needed to embrace and empower the modern women. The reason i have chosen this theme for my final year collection is because of the way i want my customer base and industry to see me as, a strong independent designer that provides confidence and strength to women. The way the theme resonates with myself as a designer is the way the collection will allow women to feel empowered and strong, that indeed makes me feel as if I have influenced that feeling. The theme is also heavily influenced by Yves Saint Laurent " Le smoking". The way Yves Saint Laurent made the women feel and look was iconic yet controversial. Mimicking the way men dressed and adapting the designs into womenswear whilst still tailoring the silhouettes to the female form was his way of making his stand for women in such a demeaning world, he was able to appeal to women at all levels in society and create new perspective during a time of cultural change and expression colliding the modern world with the traditional. This is why i chose the theme of my collection, women will always have to fight for their rights, women are powerful and strong and i want that to portray in my designs and to the wearer.
